Who doesn't love the nunchuck???
The nunchuck, or nunchaku, and its use in different types of martial arts and martial arts styles.
Every little kid loves Michelangelo on the ninja turtles right...that wit, that style, and of course... that weapon! The nunchaku are a fun weapon. The style behind the forms are incredibly beautiful.
It can be an extremely easy move but look like only a master could do it! This makes it one of the more interesting weapons to observe during show.
Most are made of two pieces of hardwood with either a rope or chain holding them together. The length is equal to that of your forearm if you have the right size.
All parts of this weapon are used in battle. The handles are used for jabbing or like a spear while the middle chain, or rope, is used in both blocking and striking. One other use of the chain would be a hold or choke.
The video below shows a young man doing a form that he sent to his master to get corrections on so I putting it here to just show what some of these forms look like.
Maru-gata (Round)
Used for training and should be heavy
Hakakukei (Octagonal)
Sharp edges are very effective
So-setsu-kon (Long & Short)
One short side prevents striking your hand during motion.
Han-Kei (Half-size)
Two sides fit smoothly together, therefore easier to carry
San-setsu-kon (Three piece)
This is close to the three section staff but a smaller version. This is good in combat for if one section breaks it will still be effective.
