I know.....choosing between all the martial arts schools is tough!

Martial arts schools are sometimes hard to find and is the most important decision when deciding to study any style!

Location:

The first thing is location. You obviously want to get instruction from a school near you. If you drive a long distance, you will eventually get burned out on taking those trips and possibly give up. It happens often!

Style:

Then there is choosing a style that fits you.

A 60 year old man looking for instruction would probably prefer tai-chi over jui jitsu, which is much more physically demanding on your body.

This does depend on the person and just pick something you think you will enjoy!

Instructor:

Some might think this is the most important.

Honestly, these are all equally important but you must have an instructor that knows his stuff and that you trust.

Its horrible, but there are instructors out there that really just do not know how to teach their style or are not motivated for the right reasons.

If you don't like your teacher, you will quickly stop taking any instruction.

You also want to look at teaching experience. A new teacher may not have a real teaching style yet, where a 30 year teacher has his curriculum down pat.
