Founder

History

Jiu Jitsu was derived from the Japanese martial art Judo within the last 150 years or so. Judo itself was fairly new having been founded in 1882 based on Japanese Jujutsu.

Jiu Jitsu moves focus on helping that weaker person defending himself. You have probably heard of the many holds the art has from choke holds to joint locks.

This is one of the main martial arts used in mixed martial arts (MMA). There are also tournaments, the most popular reason to train, that have two ways of competing, gi and no-gi.

Sparring is also a huge part of Jiu Jitsu which is referred to as "rolling" to practitioners of the art. Going along with that is live drilling. Both play a major role in training and definitely in competition.
