Broad Swords, Martial Arts Styles and Types

Broad Swords History and Techniques, its use in different types of martial arts and martial arts styles

These are probably one of my favorite weapons. I used it pertaining to kung fu, but it is used in multiple types of martial arts.

Broadswords, which are used in many Chinese martial arts, date back to medieval times.

Martial Arts

It was first known to have a broad blade with two lethal edges, however, many arts use a type that has one cutting edge. (what is seen today)

The weapon is used for slicing an opponent and is capable of cutting off the limbs or head of an enemy in one stroke. Obviously in modern times it is purely for the art.

Dao is a category of single-edge Chinese swords primarily used for chopping, often called a broadsword in English translation because some varieties have wide blades.

In China, the dao is known as one of the four major weapons.

Dao is actually a generic word used to denote any member of a family of single-edged, broad-bladed tools, but in common, everyday usage means knife.
